How do you define your finger size?

When buying or creating a ring, the choice of finger size is an elementary step. Finding the right finger size is not an exact science. It's often complicated to find it, because it varies from one person to another, depending on a number of factors, such as morphology, whether it's the right or left hand (the right hand will often have different finger sizes to the left), temperature, different times of the day, physical exercise, and so on. To define your finger size, it's best to have another ring worn regularly on the same finger to define its size.

Here's a guide to the different ways of defining your finger size. It's essential to apply these tips to the finger and hand hosting the future creation in order to obtain the right size, or at least those closest to it.

First option:

Visit a jeweller's or a jeweller's shop

The best way to determine your finger size is to visit a jeweler. You can visit our showrooms in Paris and Bordeaux so that we can take your size with a ring set, which consists of a multitude of rings of all sizes, and go through them to find the one that suits you best. The size we recommend is the one that best suits you at the time of your visit to our showroom. If you can't visit one of our showrooms right away, you can also visit a jeweler near you to get this information.

Second option:

Using a ring gauge

By requesting a baguier on our website, you can have it delivered free of charge to your home within a few days, along with an explanatory leaflet! The principle is simple: put the ring on your finger, adjust it and look in the bubble for the size indicated. It's easy to use, because you can easily see the size and feel, but you can also bend the plastic rod to allow the joint to pass through, which is also an indicator of whether or not you've got the right size. This method is fairly reliable, so the idea of size should be accurate.

Third option:

Measure yourself

While it may seem complicated at first glance, it is possible to measure the perimeter of your finger to find its size. To do this, you need to take a strip of paper and use it to create a kind of ring. Wrap it around your finger and note where the end overlaps the paper. Make sure that the piece of paper is neither too tight nor too large. Then simply unroll the paper with the indication left and measure between the end and the line previously marked on the strip. The result in millimeters is more or less equal to your finger size (for example: 52mm corresponds to a size 52). This method isn't the most reliable, but it's accessible to everyone.

Fourth option:

Size prognosis

We know that it is sometimes complicated to use the methods described above to obtain a size (the ring you want is for a surprise request, a gift or other). That's why our role during ring selection appointments is also to advise you. So, based on your knowledge of the person, your description of their morphology and sometimes even with photos, we can estimate the approximate size of the fingers. Of course, this is only an estimate, and we can't guarantee the perfect size, but it will enable us to design the ring for the big day.

Fifth option:

The jewel already in your possession

Finally, the last way to know a finger size and to know that it's suitable whatever the season, temperature or time of day is to have a ring already worn daily or often on the finger of the right hand (for example, a ring worn on the right middle finger for a future creation on the right middle finger). This remains rare, but a promise ring worn on the left ring finger can easily guide the choice of size for an engagement ring if worn on the same finger of the same hand. All we need to do is check the size of the latter with a tool called "Triboulet".

Aware that it's often complicated to define an ideal finger size, our company offers a complete after-sales service for your jewelry, including free sizing for life. This allows you to return with the recipient of this surprise to perfectly adjust it to his or her finger. However, we advise you not to exceed three sizing changes over the lifetime of your ring, and not to go beyond three sizes up or down, to avoid weakening your jewelry piece, as each sizing change causes wear and tear on the jewel!
